What a perfect spot for a last minute anniversary getaway weekend. We were so lucky to happen upon a rare available weekend and now we know why this cottage is always booked. It feels like staying at a second home with its quality structure and personal touches. Cedar Hill Cottage is truly the nicest place and setting in which we have ever stayed! We loved the coffee cake, of course, and zinnias are among my favorites. Everything was perfect, including the hosts. We felt we were in our private getaway, but knew they were nearby if needed. Thank you for a wonderful stay! —LW 08/12
Once again the hosts have extended fine hospitality by welcoming us to stay at their cottage. We love the cottage and surroundings so much; we truly feel like this is a home away from home. Thank you for hosting us a third time. We look forward to returning!
For sixteen years my sister and I have been going away together for a few days, usually to a B&B, and always to a different one. Last year we came to this wonderful cottage and had such a relaxing time that we decided to make our first repeat and come back here. We have again thouroughly enjoyed our time here and look forward to returning! —BC 09/12
This cottage provides a beautiful, restful, and peaceful getaway. Everything was so lovely and perfect in every way, from the parfait and crumbcake to the lovely design and charm of the cottage. We enjoyed the Bill Bryson book (almost finished) and the walks in the woods. We watched no TV and heard no news; we only enjoyed the solitude this place offers. We look forward to coming again and having a wonderful and peaceful respite from the real world. —TM 10/12
What a sweet sanctuary! Everything the previous guests had mentioned is true. The cottage, the scenery and all the special touches!! Of course it goes without saying that our host and hostess are genuinly lovely people. My husband wanted to surprise me with a birthday/anniversary retreat. He hit the jackpot! We will be back; this is now part of our family tradition. —JMA 10/12
We were just stunned by the lovliness of the grounds and the cottage. The hosts obviously have put much thought and work into making this the perfect retreat. As we were driving out for dinner on the last night, we saw four deer in the yard. The quiet and peacefulness of this beautiful place is something we could quickly become accustomed to and prefer. We wished we could have stayed longer. —SM 11/12
We wish we had known about the cottage when we first came down for UVa orientation in the Summer of 2009. It is a beautiful retreat and so close to the school and everything in town. We really enjoyed ourselves this weekend. —SI 11/12
What a quiet and relaxing getaway! The cottage was perfect in every way, with accommodations that would surpass any 5-star hotel! Oh, and the coffee cake...my husband devoured most of it on the second night..."would not want it to go to waste," he said. Of course, I was saving it for breakfast. We will remember Cedar Hill fondly and look forward to another trip just to stay at the cottage. —LGF 12/12
(My husband) and I feel so fortunate to have found you here at Cedar Hill. I was disappointed that the Boar's Head was totally booked until finding your wonderful cottage at Cedar Hill. We hope to be back over and over. Very comfortable, and you provided for our every need. In Charlottesville, we have found our favorite restaurant, Duner's, and our favorite accommodation, Cedar Hill. P.S., we love the coffee cake, just like all the others before us. —EB 04/13
Your office was wonderful! We so enjoyed our get away. The rough part was leaving yesterday. We will be back! Thank you for making our get away better then perfect! —AW 05/13
We have stayed in many different hotels in Charlottesville, but this was like being at home. We very much enjoyed the setting. Nest time we return to Charlottesville, we will try to stay here. The Shepards were so very nice, and it was wonderful to meet them. —BR 11/13
This is our second time staying at Cedar Hill and we would never re-visit if we hadn't fallen in love with the accommodations the first visit! The hospitality is AMAZING!! The hostess is so sweet and it's almost like we are alone in the woods. You never even realize there is a house next door. Every room is comfortable, especially the sleeping accommodations! The bed is clean and super comfy, super easy to fall right asleep the second your head hits the fluffy down pillows! I'm a VERY picky person; I usually bring my own linens, pillows, towels, and dishes at times when I travel. Here I feel at home and don't bother bringing any of that. I'm super comfortable because it is so clean! We ate out most of the time to treat ourselves, but the coffee cake our hostess makes is awesome and she also left milk, OJ, eggs, yogurt & fresh fruit along with croissants and jelly for breakfast. The hostess is very thoughtful! Also, Guesthouses Reservations is very helpful with recommending places to visit and eat. We will be back next year, and every year after that!!! —JF 03/14
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Cedar Hill cottage! The hospitality was outstanding! The hosts were helpful and welcoming without being intrusive. It felt just like home and the cottage was spotless! The breakfast supplies were perfect for us- just enough to get the day started. Booking was simple and straightforward with Guesthouses. We will definitely be back! —TT 06/14
The hospitality at the Cedar Hill Cottage was superb. It was comfortable and clean, just like home. Upon arrival we found the host had provided a homemade coffee cake, 1/2 dozen eggs with orange juice and milk in the refrigerator, croissants. This was our first experience with Guesthouses, and I do not think it could have gone any better. Our hosts were delightful and very helpful. They provided us with restaurant recommendations and directions as well as possible sights of interest; they also made themselves available for visiting and never made us feel rushed or intrusive on their time. The cottage feels so secluded you do not seem to realize their house is only a very short distance away. The cottage was clean and neat; perfect for a getaway - I could live there! There was nothing we found lacking - complete with washer/dryer and additional linens if needed. The kitchen area has everything a couple needs for preparing a snack, lunch, or full meal. The host provides a basket in the bathroom full of any toiletry item you may need, as well as in the shower. The gardens surrounding the cottage and their home provide privacy. Sitting on the front porch of the cottage and listening to the insects chirping was so relaxing you were ready for bed immediately; breakfast on the front porch was wonderful while listening to the birds chirping and watching the hummingbirds feed at the flowers in the gardens. Each setting took you back to a simpler time when life was relaxing. Added touches were the deer and bunnies in the field. We were so enamored with their cottage and hospitality that we immediately booked for October of this year to enjoy this delightful setting in all its Fall splendor. I found the office of Guesthouses to be very helpful with my decision making and accommodating when making our reservations. I cannot think of a thing that would have made our stay better!
